I tried to make a sleeve for my iPad Mini, but it came out smaller so now it’s for the Samsung Galaxy 7 tablet.

2013 Travel Planning

I am so excited for my travels this year! Today I 1. claimed my Turkish Airlines miles from my trip to Tanzania & Istanbul, 2. mailed in my boarding passes from my Cost Rica trip to Miles & Smiles to claim those miles, too 3. started my budget & fundraising spreadsheets, & 4. contacted a TEFL Institute advisor to start my study abroad application.

I had originally planned to study abroad in Madrid, Spain for my TEFL Certification, but the program start date for Spain is June 3rd, 2013. I don’t graduate until the second week of June (God willing), therefore I won’t be able to apply to this program since I’ll still be in school. So now that I am not going to Spain… I am applying for Brazil! I am more excited about Brazil than I was for Spain, actually ☺

I still have to plan out my trip to Thailand in October through CIEE. The application is lengthy, but this here is my ultimate goal. I’ll be Teaching English as a Foreign Language in Thailand from Fall 2013 - (?) 2014, God willing.

I hope to visit other countries in South America and Southeast Asia while I am there.

Wherever I end up in the world, come visit me.

2012 Reflections

2012 was wonderful. Among the little things, I am thankful to have read new books, start a new job, open my little craft shop, learn to simplify my life, and to have won a scholarship that will continue my travels. 2012 was the year my journeys began, and I am still blown away. Never before had I imagined myself studying abroad in Tanzania, standing in the center of Europe & Asia in Istanbul, paragliding in Puerto Vallarta, and lodging at the foot of an active volcano in Costa Rica. I am absolutely thankful for all of the help and support that I received from my family and friends. The growth I experienced and the way my life has changed was substantial. I am blessed. At this moment, I feel a little nervous about this year, but at the same time I feel ready. Ready to graduate, ready to continue my travels & move away to a foreign land where I can start anew and feel myself BE. The lesson I’m taking with me: Feed your growth. Sending good vibes your way, Happy New You

Caño Negro National Wildlife Refuge

While we were in the town of La Fortuna, we decided to take a day tour to Caño Negro National Wildlife Refuge, which is one of the top destinations to go to if you are trying to spot some of Costa Rica’s exotic animals.

Caño Negro is a wetland made up of Rio Frio, which is close to the border with Nicaragua. Our tour guide, Fransisco, was quite informative when it came to teaching us about the ecosystem and different animals; I learned a lot!

We spotted quite a bit of wildlife (including three different species of monkeys!), and it was especially perfect for bird-watching since many migratory birds had arrived at the start of the dry season to nest.

I absolutely LOVED this place. The environment, animals, quiet nature… absolutely wonderful.

If I remember correctly, this lizard is called Jesus Christ because it runs on water on its hind legs. If you watch NatGeoWild, I’m sure you’ve seen a slow-motion video of this. I got to see it live!
